Hemel Labour chooses General Election candidate

Hemel Labour Party has selected a former Kings Langley teacher and successful businessman as its candidate to fight the 2015 General Election.

Tony Breslin, a prominent educationalist who began his working life as a teacher at Langleybury School in Kings Langley, was selected by Labour members at a well-attended meeting in Warners End Community Centre on Saturday.

Tony runs a public engagement consultancy, which works across the public, private and voluntary sectors, and chairs the exam board Industry Qualifications. Previously, he spent nine years as Chief Executive at the Citizenship Foundation, a leading charity that promotes citizenship education for young people.  Prior to this he worked as an education adviser in Enfield and as a Director of Sixth Form Studies in Haringey.

Tony is a Trustee of Adoption UK, serves on the Board of a theatre company and is a school governor. He is also a member of the Alzheimer’s Society and has campaigned on voter engagement on care for the elderly and dementia.

He is married to Ann, a primary school head teacher, and they live in Bushey with their two young sons.

Tony said:

“I am thrilled and honoured to be selected as Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for Hemel Hempstead. Labour held this seat between 1997 and 2005 when we lost it by less than 500 votes. We intend to win it back through a positive, high tempo campaign that embraces voters, businesses and community groups across the town and the wider constituency.

But, to do so, our starting point has to be an acknowledgement that many people aren’t just unhappy with this government, they are also fed up with politics itself - that is bad for our society and bad for Hemel. I am looking forward to winning the seat back for Labour and to representing the people of Hemel in Parliament.”
